Protect Yourself from Jugging
What is Jugging?
Jugging involves a thief watching customers at a bank, ATM, or drive-thru, identifying someone withdrawing a large amount of cash, then following the victim to their next stop—like a store, gas station, or home—to steal the money.
Who’s at Risk?
While anyone can be targeted, jugging often focuses on:
- Business owners making large transactions
- Elderly individuals
- Anyone who appears distracted or unaware of their surroundings
How to Stay Safe:
At the bank or ATM:
- Be discreet with cash and envelopes
- Stay alert and limit distractions
After withdrawing cash:
- Go directly home or to a secure location
- Vary your banking routine
- If you suspect someone is following you, drive to a police station or busy public place
In your vehicle:
- Lock up right away and never leave cash in the car
- Hide valuables before arriving at your destination
- Park in well-lit, high-traffic areas
If You Suspect Jugging:
- Call 911 immediately
- Report suspicious activity to your bank and local law enforcement
- Share this information to help others stay informed
